What is ComForT?

ComForT is a volunteer animal visitation program. Owners and their pets visit long-term care facilities, day treatment programs, assisted living residences and rehabilitation centers to promote motivational, recreational and theraputic benefits.

All animals in the program have passed nationally recognized skills and aptitude tests. They have also been examined by a veterinarian to ensure good health.

ComForT offers group and individual visits to more than twenty facilities in the Big Bend area. Our companion animal group is comprised mainly of dogs but cats and rabbits are also available for visits.

Why visit with pets?

Owning pets or simply interacting with friendly animals has been proven to provide both emotional and physical benefits.

The pets relieve boredom and stress by making long-term residential settings more like home.

In rehabilitation centers patients who have shut themselves away from people will respond to playful loving animals, opening the door for treatment.

  • FUNDRAISER – PET LOVERS JEWELRY SALE
Susan Wilson is launching her internet jewelry business, Silver Paws and Bones, and to celebrate she will be donating a percentage of her October through December sales to ComForT. Most of Susan's jewelry is dog-theme, but she has recently added cat-theme items, as well as botanicals and other jewelry. ComForT members can also avoid shipping costs by selecting "money order" as your method of payment. Then simply contact Susan directly to make arrangements for payment (cash, check, or money order) and delivery. Don't worry, the website will have clear instructions for ComForT shoppers. PayPal and credit cards are also accepted, however, there is no way to waive shipping if you select these payment methods. The site also has a link to email Susan directly. You can visit Susan's "store" at www.silverpawsandbones.etsy.com. New items will be posted periodically, so check back for new inventory!
